That sexy, 70's style, sunken living room...

...has a brand new vibe
This is the view from what used to be the laundry room - but as you can see - no more walls chopping up the main living area of the house. This open concept will remain - no other walls will be added (but of course the ceiling will...)

Getting the living room on more even footing with the rest of the house (pun intended) was a goal from day one.  As you can see from the photos below, that bar was situated oh so conveniently in the middle of the house and was precariously close to one of seven, yes seven step down entrances into the living area.

Unlike many of those 70's sunken living rooms, ours was a full foot deep - with an extra step built in to bridge the difference. Between the choppy build & the sunken living room, we were one good party away from an accident (or from a more realistic point of view considering our life style & my age, one step away from a broken hip!),

Fortunately, our concrete guy, David Reyes (phenomenal! should you ever need concrete, call David!) created a more cost effective way of filling the deep hole:

The truck backed up as close the front door as possible, and they brought in the concrete (cement?) with a wheelbarrow.  Approximately an hour later we had a filled living room; the crew spent a few more hours leveling & smoothing. This element really helps with the visualization of our vision for the house. And of course, I left what I hope will be one of many little messages of hope for our family in the new house
I'll be back tonight with the much requested barn blog ;-)
